A boisterous farce on machismo Italian-style. On one level, a socio-politicial satire, the film also gives stunning portrayals of passion, revenge and paranoia. Sicilian metalworker Mimi (Giannini) won't support the local Mafia candidate in an election. Forced to move north, he falls in love with Fiore (Melato), a Trotskyite with a penchant for knitting. Wertmüller's surgically sharp satire earned her a reputation on the international scene. (Remade as Which Way Is Up) (Italian with English subtitles)
