SKINOPSISFull of rape and graphic violence, and we're not talking about the job ABKCO did on Jodorowsky! Jodorowsky himself said that all the sex was unsimulated; we're not sure since all we've ever seen is old shitty bootleg VHS tapes. In this new DVD transfer, we're hoping to get down to brass tacks. Hell, if I was starring in my own film, I would sure insist on the real thing. Method acting is the fucking bomb.Official synopsis: El Topo (The Mole) is an allegorical cult western and underground film, directed by and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. Characterized by its bizarre characters and occurrences, use of maimed and dwarf performers, and heavy doses of Christian symbolism and Eastern philosophy, the film is about the eponymous character - a violent, black-clad gunfighter - and his quest for enlightenment. 3 REASONS TO BUY THIS FILM
REVIEW
This religious allegory, which has taken on mythical cult proportions, is imbued with cryptic symbolism and graphically detailed violence. The story follows El Topo (Jodorowsky), who - with his seven-year-old son in tow - sets out on a bloody odyssey through an 1800s western frontier desert seeking revenge and religious fulfillment. Filled with Fellini-esque characters and biblical references, this eclectic "hippie western" seems a bit ridiculous today as compared to the early '70s when it was enthusiastically received; but through its powerful imagery and other-worldliness, El Topo still retains a strange power and beauty.
