SKINOPSISAbsolutely beautiful Yoima Valdés has got one killer body. Those tits literally blew us away, although we're not technically dead. She doffs her top and hops into bed with a little boy. So, she's into younger guys, but we can change her mind. -- Rick Stanko

REVIEW
If director Alex de la Iglesia's previous films have been driven by brutal mayhem and misanthropic satire, then his new film could be said to represent the filmmaker's "kinder, gentler" side—or at least as kind and gentle as a film entitled 800 Bullets could possibly get! An affectionate tribute to the popular Spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s, 800 Bullets is a contemporary comedy set in the dry, dusty locale of Almeria, Spain, where many of these Euro-Westerns were originally filmed. The story unfolds with the purity of a fable, as young Carlos runs away from home to find his grandfather Julian (former Euro-Western star Sancho Gracia), who, along with Carlos' late father, was a stuntman in the glory days of the Spaghetti Western. Julian now performs in a ramshackle "Texas-Hollywood" tourist park located on Almeria's old backlots, and he takes the boy under his wing—much to the displeasure of Carlos' mother (Almodóvar regular Carmen Maura, who, like Gracia, is a de la Iglesia favorite), who decides to raze "Texas-Hollywood" for real estate value. When the Wild West performers learn of their town's fate, they strap on the guns for real and prepare for battle. 800 Bullets finds de la Iglesia displaying a compassionate love for his eccentric band of dreamers, yet the film still retains the outrageous humor one expects from the filmmaker. And by the time Julian and company take up arms, 800 Bullets has become a joyous homage to the widescreen Euro-Westerns so beloved by the filmmakers. (Spanish with English subtitles)
