In the surprisingly compelling sexual drama Lies, a married 38-year-old begins an obsessive, S&M affair with an 18-year-old virgin. Containing graphic sex (ranging from steamy to disturbing), the film boasts nearly every position imaginable, as well as paddles, rubber hoses -- you get the picture. To the film's credit, this is one of the few sex-themed films where the sex is the drama; it isn't just used as titillating filler à la your typical "erotic thriller." There is also the sporadically used (but effective) technique of the actors commenting on their roles, and the director reflecting on the banned novel on which the film is based. An original if sometimes unsettling exercise in sexual dynamics and excess. (Korean with English subtitles) --Dean Galanis
