REVIEW
Passionate love scenes and emotional despair mark After Sex, an erotic-neurotic middle-age-crisis drama from France. Director Roüan stars as Diane Clovier, a forty-something publishing executive who begins an unexpected romance with Emilio (Terral), a shaggy-haired hydroelectric engineer twenty years her junior. Jeopardizing her career as well as her life with her husband and two sons, Diane becomes consumed with the intense sexual relationship. However, it ends abruptly. Roüan, who employs jump-cut editing to tell this fractured story, threatens to make After Sex a vanity production, but there are only a few really pretentious moments. A subplot involving Diane's husband Philippe (Chesnais) defending a neighbor of murdering her husband reinforces Diane's predicament, and nicely compliments the film¹s feminist themes.
