"Gratuitous Nudity" is the phrase of the day, especially during one of the opening Oktoberfest scenes where chaos ensues, bodices are ripped, and three pseudo-German lassies are left topless in a tent in Munich. There's more skin later during a sex scene with Jay Chandrasekhar; he's really having sex with huge Mo'Nique, but his beer goggles show us a very sexy young lady.
REVIEW
America's laziest comedy troupe continues their sad decline, as Broken Lizard gives us the sloppy, rarely funny Beerfest. Super Troopers was a languid mess to be sure, but the pace fit the plot of Vermont troopers with nothing to do... plus, the high ratio of good jokes didn't hurt. Less successful was Club Dread, with too much emphasis on lame horror, but again... people at a Jimmy Buffet style resort = nice and easy pace. But good lord, if you're gonna do a film about a secret beer-drinking competition at boisterous Oktoberfest, and throw in a bunch of training cliches along the way, please please PLEASE tighten up that script and make the damn thing move. 110 minutes of belching, hanging around, and periodic long pauses to explain the inane plot make any beer buzz wear off awfully quickly. The five Broken Lizard guys have a great rapport, and it is amusing to watch their easy charm, but without enough to work with on the written page it just becomes a depressing goddamn shame.
