REVIEW
A smart and sexy adrenaline rush, the subversive Fight Club bids farewell to the old millennium and greets the new as it tears apart the mores and morals of the great, late 20th century. Seven director Fincher brings the same kind of gut-level tension that distinguished that film to this nihilistic tale of white, disenfranchised blue-collar men who find emotional release in nightly bareknuckle fighting -- but only in the form of a vibrant, hyperventilating black comedy. Norton is the Narrator, an angst-ridden businessman whose life dramatically changes when he meets the mysterious Tyler Durden (Pitt). Together they start Fight Club, a movement that catches on like wildfire. Violent and vibrant, the film is a ravaging attack on consumerism and a bloody exercise in machismo, as members beat each other senseless in superbly choreographed fight scenes. But this is a film where not everything is as it appears, and Fincher takes delight in confounding and provoking. Norton and Pitt are excellent, each submerging themselves into their roles with bravado and verve.
FAVORITE LINE
"The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club." -- Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden.
