SKINOPSISIn this third chapter of the popular horror series, a group of teens who just escaped a deadly roller-coaster accident begin to die one by one in a series of horrible deaths. Two topless Paris Hilton wannabes get fried in their tanning beds. That's hot.
REVIEW
This time it's a rollercoaster that flies off the tracks, killing everyone on the ride. Of course, someone had a premonition, and she and a handful of folks got off, foiling Death's plans yet again. Death, apparently, has had it up to HERE with these young'ns raining on his parade, because the kills here are incredibly mean and gory. A little TOO mean and gory; one would think seeing two ditsy, shallow Paris Hilton wannabes get fried in a freak tanning salon accident would be lip-smackingly satisfying, but it really just comes across as cruel and depressing. Still, director Wong knows what he's doing; upping the sick, vicious ante with each death makes one almost afraid to see what's coming next, and Wong takes his sweet old time drawing out the suspense until it's almost unbearable. Probably the best-crafted of the three films, it's also the most hopeless and downbeat. FD2 remains the best of the bunch (not saying a whole lot, really); it flew along with a pulpy punch and treated the whole thing like gory slapstick fun. Here, Death is a sadistic bastard, making Jason Voorhees seem like an old softie (well, it is DEATH we're talking about, to be fair); as a result, most of the fun is drained out, leaving one with a rather empty feeling once the credits roll. Still, if it's gore you're looking for....
