SKINOPSISOne of Cronenberg's earliest, it still has one of his trademark "yuck" scenes - when Samantha Eggar stickily gives "birth" it's best to keep a barf bag handy. -- Erik Schut
REVIEW
The shape of rage is the subject of Cronenberg's fourth visceral medical horror feature - and also the title of the book written by Reed's character, a renowned but controversial psychiatrist whose "psychoplasmics" method of therapy encourages patients to give physical form to their emotions and fears. Eggar, Reed's star patient, is undergoing intensive treatment at his New Age-type colony in the woods. It is there she gives life to a bizarre group of mutant children who murder her enemies. The Brood has the framework of an ordinary horror film, but it is distinguished by an intelligent exploration of the darkest pathologies of the human psyche. Editor's Suggestions
