The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)

No one was REALLY expecting a good movie here, were they? Good thing, too; this lumbering, unfunny "comedy" makes one long for the (very) low-rent charms of the one-note series. Typical Duke Boy nonsense ensues when Boss Hogg seizes Uncle Jesse's land to make a fortune in mining. Broken Lizard alum (and Super Troopers helmer) Chandrasekhar just goes through the motions here; this is an obvious paycheck gig. The two leads are adequate at best (though they do seem to enjoy working together), but while Reynolds and Gainey are both fine actors, they lack the cartoonish fun (relatively speaking) that Sorrell Brooke and James Best brought to their scenes on the old show. Simpson, of course, is easy on the eyes and fills out her...well, Daisy Dukes rather nicely (though if you watch closely, you may begin to wonder if a stunt "butt" wasn't used for closer shots...hmmmmm...better rewind that again), and the film doesn't shortchange on the car crashes. Bottom line — if you see this film, you probably know what you're in for.
