SKINOPSIS

Neve Campbell heats up the screen (and finally gets naked) as a rich, calculating femme fatale discovering the scope of her sexual power. The Manhattan-set, thoroughly erotic drama allows for some smart dialogue, lots of improv and copious sex – including lesbian flings and an outdoor foursome.
REVIEW
It's always such a treat when the unexpected actress-next-door decides to sink her teeth into a character-driven role that allows her to shed her clothes as a symbolic gesture of baring herself in the sake of art. For director Toback's indie-drama the good girl is Campbell (her steamy role in Wild Things can't be considered evidence -- she wasn't naked) who in her opening scene bares all followed by a series of unmotivated, tasteless sex scenes. As Vera, Campbell is a spoiled daddy's girl who is going through a phase of erotic exploration that leads to a string of unfortunate circumstances, all of which offer no dramatic intensity and unfold in an unusual, yet uninspired manner. Although Campbell's performance is spontaneous and a challenge to decipher at times, the full picture here is that of a mosaic. Good ideas are expressed through somewhat intriguing dialogue, but no story ever develops and you are certain to despise every character you are introduced to. Overall, When Will I Be Loved is a waste of a good movie title and has a deceiving beautiful poster art, for the film has nothing to do with being loved or love in any context other than really bad sex.
