REVIEW
This new haircutting contest film has a twist - not gay men a la Big Tease- this one features a lesbian romance. This rather unimaginative film is set in a small British town swept up in the excitement of a haircutting contest. At the center of the film are the two lovers Shelly (Richardson) and Sandra (Griffiths). Shelley was married to Phil (Rickman) and left him for Sandra ten years ago. Phil gave up his contest days and has retired to barber men of his small town. Only his ex-wife's cancer has roused him from his slumber to enter the glam world of the contest again! There are tons of nasty stereotypical hair dressers in the film and not much of a spark between the two women making this a less than stellar film for gay and lesbian movie lovers. This new comedy from the writer of The Full Monty, Simon Beaufoy, may bring you a few laughs, but not much enlightenment or stimulation.
