REVIEW
Unaccountably overlooked in its theatrical release, The Rapture is a startling philosophical drama that brings to light such weighty issues as religious zealousness, life after death and the search for faith. Rogers stars as a woman with a mind-numbing job as an L.A. telephone operator who seeks release from her existential emptiness in alcohol, drugs and anonymous group sex. Her life changes dramatically, however, after she discovers God through a religious awakening. Her newly inspired faith is put to the test in a series of Job-like trials culminating in a vision to go to the desert (with her young daughter in tow) and await the Second Coming. A thought-provoking film that offers many angles to the religious issues and an ending which forces viewers to decide for themselves.
