SKINOPSIS

The short stories of Raymond Carver brilliantly come to life in this series of vignettes from Robert Altman. Filled with celebrity nudity from Madeline Stowe, Frances McDormand, Lori Singer and Julianne Moore (and yes, the curtains match the carpet).
REVIEW
Based on nine short stories and a poem by Raymond Carver, Short Cuts immediately calls to mind one of Altman's masterpieces from the '70s, Nashville. But where Nashville is centered around a single event, Short Cuts examines the comings and goings of 22 characters connected simply by being part of the sprawl that is suburban Los Angeles, a microcosm of contemporary America. Altman explores the everyday lives of these characters with a cynical bite. He also has managed to put together an impressive ensemble. A tremendous slice of life, Short Cuts is brilliant, audacious filmmaking.
