Priceless (Audrey Tautou)

Brimming with humor and enough 5-star luxury to make even the most jaded moviegoer gawk, Priceless is a fantastically enjoyable, bittersweet farce that neatly riffs on the age-old adage, "money can't buy you love." The film revolves around a tête-à-tête between Jean (Gad Elmelah), a mild-mannered bartender at a ritzy hotel, and Irène (Tautou), a couture-hungry human fashion accessory who is this close to bagging her 60-something sugar daddy, Jacques. When a night of passion between Jean and Irène (who mistakes Jean for a wealthy hotel patron) leads to disaster for both, she runs off to Nice in search of a new paramour, and he, like a puppy dog, follows. Despite her best attempts to dislodge him, Jean, whose good-natured demeanor belies a quick-thinking Casanova, keeps turning the tables on her. Tautou and Elmelah both deliver sparkling performances, shifting breezily between romance, comedy and intrigue. Director Pierre Salvadori delights in regaling us with the absurdity of life among the hyperwealthy denizens of the Côte d'Azur and delivers several good pokes at their ridiculous hauteur, including a couple of shopping sprees that feature hysterically jaw-dropping price tags – it's enough to make you thank your lucky stars for Kmart, Walmart and Target.
