Shortly prior to the death of King David, his vision from God telling him that his younger son Solomon (Yul Brynner) should succeed him as king displeases his other son Adonijah (George Sanders) who vows to attain the throne. Solomon’s wisdom and benevolent rule is seen as a threat to more tyrannical monarchs in the region, so the Egyptian Pharaoh (David Farrar) agrees to relinquish a Red Sea port to the Queen of Sheba (Gina Lollobrigida) if she can destroy Solomon.
