SKINOPSIS

From the BBC comes this true story of wealth, glamour, palatial estates and cross-dressing, lesbianism and bisexuality. "Portrait of a Marriage" is the story of an open marriage in the early 20th century when such things were not spoken of. Celebrated writer Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicholson had a long and loving marriage despite numerous same-sex affairs carried out openly by both of them. This drama depicts Vita's tortured and very public affair with novelist Violet Keppel. Set against the backdrop of WW1 Europe, the drama is frank and daring in its depiction of lesbian love. The DVD includes footage too racy for the PBS broadcast.
