REVIEW
Mrs. Erlynne (an unfortunately miscast Hunt) is a widow with a flair for surviving off of married men’s money. After her flagrant reputation in Manhattan runs weary, her diminishing luck sails her off to Italy where she is immediately the subject of the townswomen’s gossip and the curiosity of their philandering husbands. As a mysterious and secret relationship forms between she and Robert Windermere (Umbers), his wife Meg (Johansson) begins to see her perfect world unravel and fill with shame as she becomes increasingly convinced her marriage, fresh off its feet, may be coming to an end. In this weak adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s "Lady Windermere’s Fan," Barker’s direction can’t even bring out noteworthy performances from actors who have already established themselves as cinematic gems. At least we still have this line: "In this world there are only two tragedies. One is getting what one wants, and the other is getting it."
