REVIEW
As if it was taken straight from today’s headlines, this film tells of the harrowing adventure a group of buddies during a jaunt to Las Vegas before one of them gets married. Actually, it seems to have been ripped straight from the fantasies of a pubescent boy. In classic “with friends like these” fashion, group dynamics spin wildly out of control in the service of buddies helping a buddy get the last thing in the world that he really needs. Beyond the obvious question: “Who really does have a circle of friends that includes a Jew, an Arab, an African-American, a kooky overweight guy and NOT the gay upstairs neighbor?” No, nobody is going to look at this movie for its socio-political statements, character development or plot, but the filmmakers (first time director Eric Bernt wrote the screenplays for Romeo Must Die, Viruosity, Surviving The Game and Highlander: Endgame) make only the feeblest attempt at anything resembling common sense or convincing storytelling. Like the location of the film itself, where flashing lights and constant noise distract from the reality of being in the middle of a barren desert Bachelor Party Vegas employs tired attempts at wacky hijinks to cover up for a real lack of content. Maybe the seemingly pre-teen inspiration for the film is actually its marketing strategy, its target demographic, but even slobbering little boys will be let down by the relative lack of skin (two topless scenes) in this surprisingly tame trip to “Sin City.”
