SKINOPSISDick (Carrey) and Jane (Leoni) are typical yuppie overachievers; they're home so little that their son speaks with the maid's Mexican accent. So when Dick gets a promotion at his global conglomerate, Jane quits... and then the company goes belly-up (part of an ongoing Enron critique). This forces them to do anything to stay afloat, including petty jobs, but when their lawn is repossessed they turn to crime. All this plot takes a full hour to get going, leaving precious little time for the quite funny heists, before giving way to a heavy-handed, painfully obvious anti-big-business wrap-up. Parisot directs this remake of the 1977 Jane Fonda/George Segal comedy with a thuddingly serious tone that is often at odds with Carrey's slapstick shenanigans, and the whole affair feels slapped together like a movie-by-committee with absolutely no sense of fun. -- David Gorgos
