A Sweet Scent of Death

Early one morning in the oat fields of Carranco, a village in the Mexican sierra, young Ramón (Diego Luna) finds the dead body of his secret teenage love Adela. After he covers her naked body with his shirt, the gossip in town is that Ramón was the murdered girl’s boyfriend. Meanwhile El Gitano, a small-time criminal, spends a night of love and sex with his married lover Gabriela, and after being suddenly interrupted by someone bearing a flash light, leaves Carranco.

That night at the local bar, as level-headed town sheriff Justino and the other regular customers argue about what should be done, the village nut case points his flashlight at them and screams “El Gitano” murdered the girl”. Marcelino, a bitter old man, tells Ramón he must avenge the murder of his girlfriend. In this desolate place, where machismo and brute force rule, Justino, Ramón, Gabriela and others will have life-changing decisions to make. (Spanish with English subtitles)
