REVIEW For those of you expecting the bawdy sensuality of
Tipping the Velvet this film is a different tale indeed. Heavily atmospheric and more of a drama,
Fingersmith is a period thriller that focuses on two women in love in Victorian England. Raised as a professional thief, Sue Trinder is an excellent pickpocket. But Gentleman has a grand plan for a bigger swindle in which Sue can play a major role. He's going to get her placed as a maid to wealthy heiress Maud Lilly and they are to defraud her of her wealth. Maud is a clerk to a book dealer and doesn't even know she is an heiress. When Sue and Maud meet their attraction is instant. After a few weeks as Maud's maid they share a bed. And after teaching Maud how to kiss, the seal becomes intense. While there is a stunning bedroom scene between the two women, there is no full frontal nudity. At the conclusion of part one there is a shocking surprise, so amazing you might want to watch all 3 hours at one sitting.
