A delicacy for the connoisseur of crime thrillers, Layer Cake is a dazzling, dizzying experience, dripping with style and packed with enough story for three films. Director Matthew Vaughn is best known as the producer of Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch and reveals here that he has been holding out on the his audiences: Layer Cake is far more stylish, intelligent and fully realized than either of those films. Daniel Craig gets the role of a lifetime as a nameless high end drug dealer beginning to consider retirement when he his recruited for a job that he cannot refuse ---- no matter how desperately he tries. The twists and turns of the knotty, intricate plot that follows grows ever more complex, surprising and engrossing with every passing minute. The underworld neighborhood has been explored countless times before but rarely has it been rendered in such a consistently intelligent and entertaining a fashion. This film is destined to become a classic.
