Unable to cope with the devastating loss of his wife and eldest son, Harry Maloney (Colm Meaney) begins to think that the world is against him and convinces himself that his friends, neighbors and family are plotting his downfall. He begins to believe that 'a man is measured by his enemies' and plans to destroy one of the most powerful and successful men in town, George O'Flaherty (Adrian Dunbar). But his mission of destruction becomes more complicated when Harry's son, Gus (Cillian Murphy) becomes involved with George's daughter, Eileen (Kerry Condon). Harry's delusional behavior increases, and he finds extreme difficulty dealing with his own personal tragedies, and must find a way to carry on.
