REVIEW
It’s no wonder that there is such a boom in new home construction. Witness the issues faced by the attractive Mathers family when they move to London from the U.S. and find the ancient remains of voodoo victims buried in their basement. Faster than you can say “I put a spell on you” supernatural possession afflicts the family and they enlist the help of local residents who have more than a passing knowledge of the subject. Writer-Director Robert Pratten delivers a solid piece of work that is refreshingly subtle and spooky rather than merely shocking and scary. Good acting and production values go a long way towards making the film as engrossing and haunting as it is. By paying real attention to the emotional/intellectual elements of the characters’ situation the film is effective both as an intense supernatural thriller and an engrossing domestic drama.
