FROM THE LINER NOTES

Based on a true story, Stu “The Kid” Ungar was a card prodigy who grew up playing high-stakes gin rummy in New York. By the time he was twenty years old, he was running for his life — escaping to Las Vegas ahead of angry mobsters. He made his name by winning the World Series of Poker the very first time he played, in 1980. Then he won it again in 1981 — the youngest player ever to repeat a win. By 1989, he had lost it all. With the help of a friend, Stu managed his demons and won the ultimate poker prize one more time, sixteen years after his first victory: the 1997 World Series of Poker championship. But, sometimes enlightenment comes too late, and victory has its price.
