REVIEW
Picking up four weeks after the original Bridget Jones’ Diary left off, Zellweger returns as the plump, awkward and lovable Bridget Jones. Happily involved with Mark Darcy (Firth) in her first serious relationship in years, Bridget is certain things are too good to be true; her insecurity is the main reason she finds herself in all the catastrophic situations that present themselves, and this time around they steer towards being even more outrageous and embarrassing. Besides appearing a little goofy more often than not, Bridget is faced with a dilemma when ex Daniel Cleaver (Grant) shows up. Of course we are supposed to hate him and root for Bridget and Mark to live happily ever after, but one problem with Edge of Reason is the realization of how boring Bridget’s beau really is… Prepare to root for the antagonist. Once again, Zellweger is flawless as Jones, and she has a lot more physical comedy to perform this time around which can be quite enjoyable. Often silly and, like Bridget herself, full of imperfection, the laughs are still present and this sequel should bring a smile to anyone who enjoyed the first film.
