Having pretty impressive luck throughout his profession, but little in his love life, tennis-pro Peter Colt (Bettany) has made it to the high-point competition at Wimbledon the same year he has decided to retire. When he falls for the current tennis "it" girl Lizzie Bradbury (Dunst), Peter's luck seems to be looking up both on the courts and romantically. Anyone watching this trite comedy, however, won't feel quite as lucky. The blame for Wimbledon's failure could be placed on a its weak script or the miscasting of not one, but two leading stars. Bettany and Dunst have absolutely no chemistry and while some of the perky, slapstick comedic attempts are tolerable, nothing really makes this comedy a winner. It doesn't succeed as a romance nor as the inspirational sports story it wants to be.
