Win a Date with Tad Hamilton

A small-town girl (the winsome Bosworth) wins a date with her Hollywood heartthrob idol Tad Hamilton (Duhamel), much to the chagrin of her longtime platonic friend Pete (Grace). Worse for Pete, who is too afraid to show his amorous feelings, Tad seems to be falling for her. Sure, this kind of love triangle has been played to death, and sadly the script doesn't have the zippy dialogue that's de rigeur in romantic comedies. But there's a curious freshness to the proceedings, whether it's the remarkable innocence of the courtships, the complete avoidance of mean-spirited schenanigans, or the simple fact that Tad, who could easily be typed as an archvillain, is actually sweet and good-intentioned. This makes the inevitable return-to-the-small-town climax bittersweet, pitting the handsome Duhamel against the ample charms of Grace in a battle we'd rather not see either lose. Lane and Hayes are wasted in extended cameos as Tad's managers.
