REVIEW Overly silly and chemistry-free, Along Came Polly manages to produce a few laughs in spite of its dumbing down and formula romance. Stiller plays an extremely uptight insurance risk-assessor who's jilted on his honeymoon; he meets old high school acquaintance Aniston, his complete opposite, and is surprised to find himself attracted to her. Typical cutesy romantic comedy material clashes with (increasingly typical, these days) unfunny bathroom humor, resulting in a by-the-books comedy. Luckily, there are three great comic performers in support: Baldwin as Stiller's crass boss; Hoffman as a rather pathetic former child star; and especially Brown in a hilarious "crude Australian" parody. The typecast Stiller and Aniston are fine individually, but can't connect as a couple, making this — when the supporting players aren't on-screen — a tedious chore.
