REVIEW
Well-meaning but poorly executed, Beyond Borders follows well-heeled socialite wife turned hunger relief worker Jolie as she helps the helpless around the world after receiving a wake-up call in the form of handsome but righteously angry Owen. A dreadful opening scene gives way to about 40 minutes or so of mediocre drama, as Jolie is indoctrinated into the world of on-location charity work. The film becomes increasingly silly and pointless as it goes on, however, and Jolie becomes less and less sympathetic as she leaves her very young children at the drop of a hat to travel to extremely dangerous parts of the world. The last chunk of the film is actually embarrassing, as director Campbell allows the film to slip into exotic-locale action mode as Jolie fights to release Owen from some evil kidnappers. You will have already become beyond bored at this point. And watch out for the creepy CGI starving baby! What were these people thinking?
