REVIEW At least a step up from the last entry,
Scary Movie 3 still ain't exactly Nöel Coward, but when it's funny — which is not often enough — it's very funny. Basically a double parody of
The Ring and
Signs (with many other references, of course, including a Michael Jackson bit), the film moves quickly, isn't nearly as mean-spirited as its predecessors (though it does have a nasty and laughless funeral scene), and has a hilarious extended cameo by the king of these types of comedies, Leslie Nielsen. He's able to wring laughs from some weak gags, and even gets to do an in-joke about his
Airplane! character (no big shock, since director Zucker was a codirector of that film). Unfortunately, long moments of the film go by without even producing a smile, but when you do laugh, you might find yourself laughing harder than you expected.
