Danger After Dark:
With its skillful blend of black comedy and outrageous gore, the original 1985 cult favorite Re-Animator is one of the defining horror films of the past twenty years. Now director Brian Yuzna—the producer of the original film, and director of the previous sequel Bride of Re-Animator—has delivered an equally delirious and gleefully grotesque chapter in the saga of Herbert West, mad scientist extraordinaire. Beyond Re-Animator is a wildly comical and unapologetically bloody shocker which is sure to delight and disgust fans of the series, or even just the brave and curious. If you’ve had it with tepid PG-13-rated major-studio ghost stories, then this is definitely the film for you. This time, Herbert is incarcerated in Arkham State Prison, but he continues his experiments on reviving the dead, collaborating with the new prison doctor, but their maniacal research soon runs into conflict with the sadistic warden, triggering a jailhouse riot of zombified proportions. Yuzna has created a slick and sick rapid-fire horror-comedy with grandly gruesome special effects, and another brilliant comic performance from Jeffrey Combs, making Beyond Re-Animator mandatory viewing for fans of the genre.
