Walker returns (sans Vin Diesel, alas) to nab some bad guys and tool around in snazzy cars. Unfortunately, director Singleton forgot to include the exciting action that made the first film such a pleasant surprise. In fact, this juvenile sequel is exactly what many assumed the first film would be; luckily, virtual unknown Diesel and director Rob Cohen (and some strong editing) knew they were basically making car porn, and delivered the goods in that department. Here, we're "treated" to some rote driving that would put Starsky and Hutch to sleep, as well as some unconvincing (to be charitable) CGI work in lieu of stunt driving, that makes much of the film look like a lousy video game, and erases any sense of danger. A quick comparison to Bullitt or The Road Warrior proves there's no substitute for the real thing. This one's strictly for the kids ... though even they're likely to be bored.
