REVIEW
A group of grifters, led by Burns, has unwittingly pulled a scam that drained the bank account of feared and flaky crime boss The King (Hoffman). So they cut a deal to make a new con that will repay The King, until some twists that are hidden from the audience make it impossible to tell who's playing who. Even in the nascent days of Tarantinoism, this concept would have seemed tired, but the stellar cast seems to not notice, giving some extremely engaging performances. Hoffman in particular is let loose, combining his Ratso Rizzo and Tootsie in creating a violently fey menace. The plot breezes along, aided by Foley's slick direction, but those looking for a reprise of Foley's Glengarry Glen Ross should note that first-time screenwriter Doug Jung is no Mamet.
