REVIEW
A comedy, a musical, a Bollywood homage, a calm indictment of the exclusion of Indians in Tinseltown and a satire of quick-fix spirituality in the US: all in 95 minutes. The Guru is one of the freshest Hollywood comedies of the year with so many ideas, it’s a small miracle that they all work together so well. Mistry stars as Ramu Gupta, a young Indian dance teacher who leaves his home country for New York and a chance to make it big in entertainment. A series of riotous circumstances takes him from performing in a porn movie to becoming a popular sex guru. The film includes a couple of high energy musical numbers and a diverse and comically gifted supporting cast. With this unconventional offering, director von Sherler Mayer makes hilarious, naughty and energetic music.
