Maid in Manhattan

Having made Julia Roberts a full-fledged movie star in Pretty Woman, the "Cinderella" formula is once again at work, this time attempting to make J-Lo a superstar. The result, Maid in Manhattan, an innocuous romantic comedy, is no more or no less satisfying than that Roberts-Gere box-office hit. Lopez plays Marisa, a single mom who is a maid for a four-star Manhattan hotel. By mistaken identity barely believable by Hollywood's standards, she is thought to be a socialite by handsome, too-good-to-be-true Christopher Marshall (Fiennes), a politician as bland as his name. Sparks fly, she continues the charade until the inevitable "moment of truth." The screenplay by Kevin Wade doesn't allow for too many humorous lines or moments, which is a shame because there's a workable chemistry between Lopez and Fiennes, only it's buried somewhere beneath the clichés.
