Margarita Happy Hour

A group of women friends, approaching 30 and with children now, meet every week for margarita happy hour at their favorite watering hole. Some of them still cling to the bohemian lifestyle of the NYC underground art and music scene, but they all have made sacrifices in becoming mothers, and find it difficult, if not impossible, to devote the same energy to their way of life as they used to. Writer-director Chaiken focuses on Zelda (sexy and talented Hutchins) and her alcoholic poet boyfriend Max (another strong acting turn by horror film director Fessenden) and digs up a lot of painful truths about parenting, ambitions and friendship. Several scenes don't work as well as others, and the ending is almost a brush-off, but Margarita Happy Hour transcends its Lifetime Channel Special Film for Former Punk Girls possibilities to become a stylish, probing drama.
