REVIEW
What Have You Done to Solange? is an archetypal giallo--violent, sleazy, sometimes illogical and possessing a beautiful score by the untouchable Ennio Morricone. The film is a fantastic jumping off point for anyone who has yet to have the pleasure of watching an example of this oft-overlooked genre of Italian cinema. For those who might have already seen a few gialli, maybe the more well-known films of Dario Argento (Deep Red or Tenebre), director Massimo Dallamano’s tale of underage relationships between teacher and schoolgirl, murder and mystery, will be a welcome new experience and provide better insight into the genre as a whole.

Camille Keaton, who would go on to star in Meir Zarchi’s infamous “I Spit On Your Grave”, has her first role here as Solange, the titular character, and plays opposite Euro cult superstar, Fabio Testi (definitely see: Lucio Fulci’s Contraband and Sergio Sollima’s Revolver, both available on DVD), who delivers a memorable performance as the teacher. Hopefully an able-minded company will see fit to bless us with a remastered version of Massimo Dallamano’s equally impressive (and even sleazier) follow up to Solange, What Have They Done to Your Daughters? at some point in the near future. In the meantime, anyone with even a remote interest in Euro sleaze, horror or crime films should check out this previously impossible to find giallo.
