Girls Can't Swim

A sadly tepid affair, Girls Can't Swim is a French coming-of-age film about the troubled relationship between two teenage girls. While Le Besco makes a strong impression — and certainly has a solid career ahead of her with better films to come — the characters aren't particularly interesting or unique, and their arguments and problems become tiresome. Despite a handful of good moments, the film can be tedious and uninvolving, and a somewhat desperate attempt at a "shocking" ending doesn't so much backfire as simply not register. You've seen this film before, and you've seen it better. (French with English subtitles)
