SKINOPSISDiane Lane gives an astounding performance in this dramatic thriller from the director of Fatal Attraction. She's a Westchester housewife who starts an affair with a mysterious bookseller. It makes sense, she's a nearly perfect specimen and she's stuck married to Richard Gere. Who wouldn't stray from his creepy, overdramatic ass? Lane's gorgeously well-preserved body is all over this movie from the bathtub to hot sex scenes to masturbation and it's all scorching. -- Rick Stanko
REVIEW
Director Lyne (Fatal Attraction) is back exploring more marital missteps in this glossy, well-acted though superficial remake of Claude Chabrol's An Unfaithful Wife. Connie and Edward Sumner (Lane, Gere) seem to have the perfect life in Westchester County. He's a successful car exec and she's a happy wife and mother, and they live in luxury with their nine-year-old son. Why, then, did she begin an affair with the handsome Paul (Martinez), a charming bookseller she literally bumps into on the street? Other than because he's gorgeous and she can, the film never clearly explains Connie's motivations, which keeps this from being a truly satisfying tale of passion and betrayal. Lane is terrific, however, as the wayward wife, in search of something but not sure what. --David Bleiler
