REVIEW
The British thriller Heart boasts a fine pedigree on both sides of the camera: director McDougall and writer Jimmy McGovern previously collaborated on the TV series "Cracker," McGovern wrote the excellent Priest, and Eccleston and Ifans have given fine performances in enjoyable films. So what the hell happened? Heart is a bloody mess. Eccleston plays a jealous husband with a bad ticker. He receives a heart transplant, and becomes newly invigorated. The mother of the heart donor becomes fixated on the husband and. . . oh, why bother? The plot just gets more ludicrous and a predictably ghastly demise is had by all. This straight-to-video release is cleverly being marketed as belonging to the surely soon to be ubiquitous (and borderline oxymoronic) genre of "intelligent thrillers." --James Fiumara
