REVIEW
Advertising Rules! -- like countless American films from the '80s starring people like Andrew McCarthy -- provides a somewhat stale look at youthful ambition plotted against the all-too-familiar landscape of corporate lunacy. Simply put, it is the comic ascension of the brash Viktor Vogel (Scheer) to a position of responsibility within an ad agency. Viktor’s boyish charm (read: obnoxiousness) makes an immediate splash with the firm’s bigwigs and he’s immediately pitching a brilliant idea that will jump-start his career. Problem is, the idea isn’t exactly his -- it's part of an upcoming exhibition created by his new artist flame Rosa (Khamatova) -- and now he must choose between love and career. Predictable, yes, but what’s worse is that the performances are so gaudy, that one doesn’t really care what happens to any of these selfish buffoons. (German with English subtitles)
