Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

The two petty weed dealers from New Jersey get their own movie: a road trip, a Hollywood satire, John J. Sullivan's "O Brother, Where Art My Car?" But that's overselling it, as Kevin Smith simply bids a fond and cheeky farewell to his immature characters whom he's carried from Clerks to Dogma. Mewes again plays himself, that is Jay, the clueless master of cool and spewer of verbal diarrhea, while Smith lays low as Silent Bob, who is indeed mostly silent but has a tremendously expressive face. They head from Jersey to Hollywood to stop a film about them from being made, and run into characters from all of Smith's films along the way. They also seem to run into a lot of jokes that Smith either cut out from the earlier films, or thought up after the fact. As such, it's a grab bag, alternately extremely funny and uncomfortably flat. It's basically a fetish film for Smith, complete with Star Wars references, bad girls in latex (including his real-life wife) and an awful lot of gay jokes. He's created a party film for his fans, and you probably already know whether you've been invited or not.
