Deep in the Woods (France)

This Gallic slasher is basically the same old stuff, but it has the whiff of something classier and contains enough stylish moments to almost recommend it to stalwart horror fans. A troupe of obnoxious, shallow, hot young actors are summoned to a wealthy estate in the woods to put on a show for an invalid child. The play is a success, but then the kids start getting picked off one by one (mostly after having sex, of course). As usual with lesser gore films, you don't care one whit for the victims, so there's little in the way of suspense, despite the efforts of the talented director. Some nice atmosphere and camerawork help out a lot, but this premise was handled far more effectively in Michele Soavi's Stagefright (aka Aquarius). (Dubbed)
