REVIEW
There are probably a few answers to the film's question: 1) Having to see it again 2) Having to see it a first time 3) Having to read about it. In all fairness, there's probably a good reason Lawrence and DeVito were drawn to this project. The premise isn't a bad one, one ripe for grand farce. A thief (Lawrence) has the ring his new girlfriend just gave to him stolen by his latest burglary victim (DeVito), and it's a game of one-upmanship to get it back. Much like Addicted to Love, a funnier if similarly uneven film, the revenge ploys become more mean-spirited and excessive. Unfortunately, screenwriter Matthew Chapman forgot the main ingredient: laughs. The characters try to be outrageous but have no comic footing, and as such the two stars are reduced to mugging, screaming and playing it over-the-top to try to wring a joke or two out of an unfunny script.
