REVIEW
The explosion of the teen comedy genre has reinforced among film executives the sinister notion that adolescent kids will flock to see anything that’s raunchy and gross. That’s what makes this teen flick, starring the always-endearing Dunst, a little more refreshing than the others. It’s still the same old story, told against the backdrop of a high school production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream": Girl dumps Guy, Guy wants her back and can’t see that Girl #2, the Girl of His Dreams is right in front of him. But it is nicely told by director O’Haver, with some clever stunts -– like kitschy production numbers and zany hallucinations -– thrown in for kicks. An over-the-top Short lends some adult supervision to the movie, playing the delusional and sadistic drama teacher. And though it’s hard to take at all seriously the notion of lovesick teenagers, Shakespeare would posit otherwise. Predictable as it may be, Get over It is a light-hearted, earnest entertainment.
