The re-teaming of Cliffhanger collaborators Stallone and director Harlin results in a clichéd racing drama punctuated by often exciting race sequences. Sly is an ex-racing champ who takes up-and-comer Pardue under his wing. Of course, as scripted by Stallone, Driven allows the young'un to be taught some life lessons as well. Uneven, at times painfully corny, Driven gets pulpier (and a little more entertaining) in its second half, featuring a tolerable performance by Stallone and scenery-chewing ones by Leonard and Gershon. Sadly, with Harlin at the wheel, the many CGI effects -- like the sharks in the director's Deep Blue Sea -- are obvious and phony.
