REVIEW
Sandra Bullock watch your back; Ashley Judd is trying hard to capture your share of the romantic comedy market. Actually, trying too hard, as she overacts, overemotes and overcutes in an attempt to bring some life into a character who's underwritten at the expense of her dialogue. Based on Laura Zigman's acerbic novel "Animal Husbandry," characters disappear within the massive yet predictable plot, where Judd's talk-show coordinator finds her personal man-as-bull theories attracting a national audience amid her desperate romantic life. Even the book's chapter headings remain, for those not paying attention. Jackman proves a good foil in a subdued role, while Kinnear plays a typical two-dimensional male ass. Snippets of scenes shine, but overall, like a wax bottle candy, there's not enough sweetness in the center of this confection.
