Urban Legends: Final Cut

This sequel to the surprise 1998 hit has only one returning character -- Devine's Pam Grier-obsessed security guard -- and a new crop of colorless teen victims. This time set at a fictitious film school (really fictitious -- no film school resembles this ridiculous cartoonization), Final Cut begins rather promisingly, with two stylish, unsettling killings that set a nice, creepy tone for the film. Stock characters and cheesy dialogue notwithstanding, the first half of the film is above-average slasher fare. Then the crap kicks in: killings become more arbitrary and ordinary, culminating with a risible wrap-up that rivals the original's climax in sheer stupidity.
